French Sandwich

A french sandwich has a lot of interpretations. Generally, the idea of a french sandwich refers to a sandwich dipped into an egg mixture then fried or baked. You might notice that most food that has a word “french” in them – like french toast – fits this profile.

Therefore, what I’ve in mind is a classic sandwich. Turkey ham between slices of bread coated with egg and then fried in a pool of olive oil.

You might notice that I do not suggest frying in margarine or normal oil, opting instead for olive oil. Olive oil actually has quite a lot of benefits to them!

The Goodness Of Olive Oil

Olive oil has quite a few benefits to them. You can use it as a skin moisturizer, directly from the bottle. Some individuals have even gone as far as to prepare their own lip balm, using olive oil, beeswax and some drops of essential oils for a nice, soothing fragrance.

On top of that, olive oil has been proven to help with snoring at night. If you have a partner who snores, make them take a tablespoon before bed. Or add it to your salad at dinner.

Do you have a horribly itchy throat? Consuming a teaspoon of this oil could give you immediate relief! Surprisingly, people use olive oil for upholstery and squeaky doors, but I won’t go in-depth about that.

You might also wonder what the different terms mean for olive oil. Extra virgin means that the oil was processed once before it was packaged and shipped. Virgin olive oil has undergone two different processes. Pure refers to three while light means that the oil underwent various processes before it was collected and stored.

Pretty interesting, isn’t it?

French Sandwich Recipe

Ingredients

  • Slices of turkey ham
  • 2 slices of bread
  • Mozzarella cheese
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 teaspoon of low-fat milk
  • Salt
  • Pepper
  • Butter
  • Olive oil for frying, alternatively, you can also use butter

Directions

Spread some butter onto both slices of bread. Line the turkey ham slices and sprinkle with cheese between two slices of bread. Press the bread firmly together. Cut the bread diagonally so that you achieve nice triangular sandwiches.

Add a dash of olive oil to your pan and turn up the heat.

Beat the eggs in a bowl, and add the milk, salt and pepper. Coat the sandwich in egg. The moment the oil is hot, fry the sandwich. Leave it for 5 minutes before turning once and frying the other side. When it’s done, serve immediately.

Final Words

This is an absolutely healthy dish. It has protein from eggs and turkey ham, and fibre from the bread. All in all, it is another recipe that you should definitely try out at home.

You can also choose to use another form of meat, perhaps chicken or a fish fillet even. Just be sure to press the bread firmly together so that they do not fall apart while frying.
